Industry representatives are urging Bangladesh to open more routes for international internet connectivity, with cheaper bandwidth and more reliable service as their stated goals, The Business Standard reported on September 23.
At a Dhaka seminar on September 22, speakers proposed easier private investment in submarine cables, fair access to landing stations and more predictable policies. They also called for greater domestic fibre sharing and local exchange of internet traffic.
A presentation put the current bandwidth price at roughly Tk120 per Mbps. Participants estimated that competition from private cable operators could bring it to Tk60–70 by 2027.
That is a projection for bandwidth costs, not an announced reduction in household broadband tariffs. Whether savings reach subscribers remains a separate question.
The discussion also linked stronger connectivity with attracting technology investment, alongside reliable electricity and stable rules. The proposals remain an industry case for reform, rather than a confirmed rollout timetable.
