More Bangladeshis are going online, but computer use has barely moved, according to BBS survey figures reported by The Daily Star on September 20.

Among people aged five and above, internet use reached 59.2 percent in April–June 2026, compared with 55 percent a year earlier. Computer use was 11.8 percent, only slightly above the previous year’s 11.6 percent.

The household figures tell a different story. Smartphone access reached 75.1 percent, while household internet access stood at 58.2 percent, below the 59.7 percent recorded a year earlier. Household computer access slipped from 9.2 to 9.1 percent.

These measures describe different things: someone using the internet is not the same as their household reporting access. The survey therefore points to growing individual use alongside uneven access to devices and connections.

BBS surveys 61,632 households across all 64 districts in each quarterly round.
