Eight school students are preparing to take Bangladesh’s robotics ambitions to South Korea after demonstrating three firefighting prototypes in Dhaka, The Daily Star reported on September 23.
The team is due to compete at the FIRST Global Challenge in Incheon from October 7 to 10. Its members, in grades seven to eleven, showed machines that could negotiate obstacles, climb pipes and launch small balls towards a target.
The team says the proposed firefighting mechanism uses carbon-dioxide-infused spheres delivered remotely. The demonstration showed the delivery concept; the machines remain prototypes, rather than established emergency equipment.
The Tech Academy also plans to develop designs for densely populated settlements such as Korail, where access during a fire can be difficult. For now, the immediate milestone is the international competition and the engineering work needed to make the robots perform reliably.
