A possible Meta office in Dhaka is being discussed, but the reports reviewed by BD Bytes contain no confirmed opening date or formal company launch announcement.
The Daily Star reported that State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed said Meta had expressed interest and would consider when and how to establish a local presence. Her account followed discussions in New York during the UN General Assembly.
UNB separately reported that a Bangladesh delegation met Meta’s chief global affairs officer, Joel Kaplan, and invited the company to open an office.
The talks covered support for small businesses and e-commerce, as well as online abuse and digital harassment. Educational cooperation was also mentioned in the minister’s account.
For Bangladesh’s online businesses, the development is worth watching. At this stage, however, it is an account of exploratory talks, not evidence that a Dhaka office has been approved or opened.
